LED Christmas lighting
I have been using LED lighting during Christmas
since about 2001. Right about when LED lights just started making it to market.
They've improved with each generation, though they still have a ways to go!
Of the three strings I bought in 2007, one failed between testing on my bench
and installing on the house. Was a continuity problem from the prongs to
the circuit. I had to take the thing apart to fix it. These were GE strands
from Lowe's.

But I finally got them up, and I love the tint
of these. Previous "white" was always a cold blue.

The GE sets are unfiltered and use a split rectifier
and a 1W resistor in each part of the plug and end connector. While
wired in parallel, they will go out if the right two bulbs are loose or removed,
just remove the first two bulbs and the circuit will go out, or remove every
5th bulb and either one on either side of it, and it will go out. Also, when
a bulb is loose, or removed, the power to the remaining LEDs increases, causing
them to go out quicker.
